Being "just" a mom

It's been about a month since I've "officially" embraced my new job as stay-at-home-mom, and just like any new job, I am adapting, changing habits, making adjustments, doing the best I can to get an A+ status with the boss -- which in this case, is also Me.

I've also had some well-meaning loved ones question my decision to be "just a mom" ... throwing all career plans, talents, potential and what-have-yous up in the air to change diapers, do the laundry, and tend to a crying infant.

I, of course, just
smile and nod and firmly re-state my desire to be JUST a mom and stay-at-home-maker, because it's something I've always wanted to be, and I know motherhood IS my season.  I believe there is more to just staying home.  I find fulfillment in my decision and will, for now, enjoy this season for what it is --  my own nature and character actually make it hard for me not to do this...to not worry about ministry or work, because I always think if I don't do what needs to be done, then no one will...!  But deep down I believe that my gifts or talents are not being wasted by this decision, in fact just the opposite !  I am fulfilling what God intends me to do in this season of my life, which is to be the best mommy and wife I can be, to continue to live in Christ and make Him the center of my life.

Funny, God had given me this message long before I was married... actually, long before I was even engaged.  It was when I read this blog entry written by our senior pastor's wife, Marie Bonifacio, Marie - An Interrupted Life.  And ever since then it became impressed upon me that when God's timing came for me to become a mother, I knew exactly what answer to give.  Although I don't know when my job as a full-time mom will end, I pray that I continue to love what I do, and to keep finding joy and peace in this season of mine, until it's time for my next job calling.

----------------
"It is never about the place. It's about the attitude of our heart. God has a unique plan and timing for each of us. We all will have our own "walking on the water" experiences. The question rather, is "Lord, what is Your Perfect will for this season in my life?" If your heart is fully yielded to seeking that, He will answer you."  -- Marie Bonifacio

here's a clipping of a funny newspaper article I stumbled on in FB, about being a SAHM.  enjoy =)

Being "just" a stay at home mom is possibly the most demanding, hardest job in the world -- and the most rewarding. :-) I admire you for your conviction, Yans, and your grace in taking criticisms from the "well-meaning loved ones". I just know Raph will be an awesome kid.

BUT i miss seeing you everyday :-)

hi yanee! I just started to read your blog site and I am so inspired! I have been a stay-at-home-maker for the past couple of months and still am struggling. It was a decision for me to quit work after being in crazy schedules ever since College (you know what I mean...) and yet God gave me the perfect sign to devote my time and understand to the core what my purpose is as a new wife. Continue writing and inspiring people with your talent and I will continue to pray for you and your family too. Kiss Raph for me. :)
